BACKGROUND:
The GDC/BC Salazar Student Awards were established in 1985 to honour Enrique Salazar, a founding member of the Society, a BC National Representative, Partner in Salazar Graphics and a highly regarded member of the BC design community.
Among many other achievements, Enrique Salazar remained committed to design education throughout his career and taught Graphic Design at Capilano College until his death in June 1985.
Metropolitan Fine Printers, the Founding Sponsor of this event, has once again joined with the GDC to commemorate Enrique Salazar and celebrate BC’c most talented and promising design students and their inspirational work.

SPECIAL GUEST SPEAKER:
JEFF BARLOW, JELVETICA AND PRESIDENT OF AIGA SEATTLE
Design = Rock and Roll (I can prove it)
One day while transcribing "I am the Walrus" to play on his guitar, Jeff discovered something powerful: That Rock and Roll and Design are overlapped in so many ways that they're practically the same thing. There's pattern, repetition, structure, refinement, and the power to change the world.
Jeff is the owner of the Seattle-based studio, Jelvetica. They specialize in helping each client find or rediscover their core idea, then turn that idea into a strong brand.
His work and ideas have been featured in Communication Arts, the HOW International Design Annual, and the HOW Self Promotion Annual. His annual report and non-profit work have been honoured by Creativity 27, Print magazine and other publications. His strategic and design experience includes work for Expedia, The National MS Society, Seattle International Film Festival, and WaMu. Aside from being a full-time principal and creative director at Jelvetica, he is also the President of AIGA Seattle, and a typography instructor at the School of Visual Concepts in Seattle.
