March 8th marked the first meeting of the new GDC BC Chapter Executive at the studios of Industrial Brand Creative. With nearly 20 people in attendance, including volunteers, observers, the meeting was productive and fun. Mostly a chance to get to know each other and our roles as we ate sushi, a good portion of our time was spent sharing why each member was a part of the GDC, why they volunteered for the Executive and brainstorming priorities for the coming two years.
Below is an interesting list from that night in order of priority from most important to least. Read the rest of this entry »
[on behalf of GDC member Casey Hrynkow]:
Dear fellow GDC/BC members,
I have been a blood donor for 30 years, on and off. I am guessing that many of you may already be blood donors, regular or otherwise. Wouldn’t it be great if your donations could be recognized collectively with the rest of the GDC/BC members? This would raise the profile of the GDC/BC through Canadian Blood Services‘ (CBS) Partners for Life donor boards at clinics and would help save more lives.

The lower mainland GDC is still looking for a few members or students who would like to help out at our December 8th event Komonowanaleia.
Helping out is a great way to get to meet other GDC members.
We’re hoping a few people can volunteer to do the following:
-door security (2 people)
-Graphex t-shirt sales and ticking off the attendee list (1 person)
We need volunteers to arrive at the event at 6:45 on Friday, December 8th and help out for approximately an hour and a half before joining the festivities.
If you can help, please get in touch with Leanne Prain, your Volunteer Coordinator, at volunteer.bc@gdc.net.
I’m amazed how often I asked by design colleagues about the value of GDC membership or how they can get involved as a volunteer or Executive Board Member. There’s already been some discussion here in this venue on the topic as well as some fine academic perspectives on our national site, but a recent email conversation between a potential new member and myself and Yves Rouselle resulted in a great thread worth sharing (with their permissions of course). Worth a read if you’re considering coming out to our AGM on Feb. 1st and volunteering for a board or committee position.
