The Little Printer That Could
About eight years ago, Metropolitan Fine Printers President/Founder George Kallas and his staff made a decision to take the company to the highest quality level possible.
We, at Metropolitan, are extremely proud to announce that at last week’s PIA Awards Banquet in Chicago, our goal was realized: Metropolitan Fine Printers was recognized as the third most awarded printer in the world, and the only Canadian Printer to place in the top ranks.
To quantify this remarkable distinction, there were more than 5,100 entries from printers all over the world, many of them 10 times Metropolitan’s size. We were able to achieve this honour with the help of our superb production team and our proprietary 10 micron stochastic UV technology, giving new meaning to astonishing colour and clarity.
Not bad for the little printer that could…

UPCOMING EVENT: MAKING COMICS
Book signing and informal meeting
with author Scott McCloud
Thursday May 31, 2007 - 7 to 9 PM
Sophia Books - 450 West Hastings St., Vancouver
FREE
Scott McCloud is probably in the Top 5 Most Important and Influential People in Comics working today. He’s recognized as the leading authority on how comics function and the principles that he delivers in his 3 books - Understanding Comics, Reinventing Comics and his most recent book, Making Comics - would help any animator or film maker to create better storyboards and better tell their stories.
Here’s what Will Wright, creator of the video game Sims and the forthcoming game Spore, has to say about Scott McCloud, “Anyone involved in interactive entertainment (games, web, etc…) should read Reinventing Comics. Scott McCloud has once again transcended the world of comics and tapped into much deeper issues of creativity, entertainment and economics. This time he’s looking into the future rather than the past.”
On Tuesday, May 15, 2007, Adobe came to Vancouver’s Sheraton Wall Centre to officially raise the curtain on the stunning new version of Creative Suite - and GDC/BC was there.
Various GDC/BC Executives enjoyed conversations with members, non-members, educators and students. Attendees who visited the GDC both entered their business cards for a prize draw for a t-shirt and copies of the 2003 and 2006 Graphex Design Awards.
The all day seminar series was sold out with nearly 500 attendees and was jam packed with information, inspiration and insights that we designers can put to work in our studios immediately. Fully optimized for the new Intel-based Apple computers, the all new CS3 features a new array of innovative tools, features and techniques designed to change the way we work and create. I literally ordered two upgrades the very next morning and you probably should too - especially if you’ve migrated to a new Mac recently. If you’ve been thinking of upgrading, now is the time.
Thanks to Adobe for the opportunity and continuing support.
We’ve had some fabulous new sponsors come on board this year, but can always use more. If you have any ideas regarding sponsors, please contact Riley or Byron with your suggestions.
