About the film
Objectified is a feature-length documentary about our complex relationship with manufactured objects and, by extension, the people who design them. It’s a look at the creativity at work behind everything from toothbrushes to tech gadgets. It’s about the designers who re-examine, re-evaluate and re-invent our manufactured environment on a daily basis. It’s about personal expression, identity, consumerism, and sustainability.

Through vérité footage and in-depth conversations, the film documents the creative processes of some of the world’s most influential product designers, and looks at how the things they make impact our lives. What can we learn about who we are, and who we want to be, from the objects with which we surround ourselves?

  1. Christina Says:

Including service charges (at least they aren’t calling them ‘convenience charges’) the cost of seeing this film is $24.15 for a non-GDC member and $18.75 for a GDC member.

    Ack!

Am I wrong in remembering that Helvetica was $10 a person with no service charges? With three organizations presenting this event why are the ticket prices still so astronomical in price?!

  2. Steve Mynett Says:

The GDC/BC Presented Helvetica and incurred all costs (and income) from the event. This time Gary is bringing in the film himself and setting everything up and we are assisting him in promoting it and have no other role in this event but we’re still happy and proud to be involved!

But $15 to see a movie like this? Regular movies are $12 so this isn’t that much more. (but yes, service changes do suck!)

  3. Christina Says:

    Thanks for the info Steve.

Regular movies are $12 which is also too much. I have seen wonderful documentary films cheaper than $12 at DOXA and the Vancouver International Film Festival. I was hoping to bring a non-member to see Objectified with me but that’s not going to happen now. $24.25 to see a film (Q&A or no Q&A) is a preposterous price. I’ll wait until it comes out on DVD. See you at the next (more reasonably-priced) GDC-sponsored event.

  4. Marga Says:

    Hi Christina,

The associations involved are only helping promote the premiere, we have no say on the ticket price and charges. We don’t get a cut from it or make any income out of promotion. The fact that we are involved is because this film is of interest of our members and gives us profile on design related events.

We do have other sponsored events in town that are free to members and non-members, like the Alcuin Society Frank Newfeld talk this Thursday April 2nd. If you haven’t got your tickets yet, go rsvp now!

    Cheers,
    Marga
