David Carson in Vancouver - 2nd Attempt

Lumen Gallery Carson EventConsidered the father of the “Grunge” typography movement, the infamous American surfer-cum-designer David Carson has been invited to speak in Vancouver…again.

After he canceled the Art Institute of Vancouver sponsored sold out event scheduled in March, the Lumen Gallery has graciously invited Carson back to share his personal philosophy and show off his recent work. There is also a reception planned for after the presentation.

Known best for his unconventional style which challenged visual communication conventions in the 1990s, Carson is still considered by many an “international design icon” with rock star status, complete with groupies and a reputation for acting rather like the Keith Richards of visual design. ID magazine, in its March 06 design awards issue, says of Carson, “often imitiated but never matched” (Ellen Lupton, Id mag). Let’s hope this time he shows up and puts on a good rock show!
