GDC Honours New Fellows

While celebrating its 50th Anniversary at the Annual General Meeting in Edmonton Alberta, the Society of Graphic Designers of Canada (GDC) awarded two Fellowships to outstanding members.

Peggy CadyPeggy Cady, of Victoria BC, immediate past president of the national GDC, and Catherine Garden, of Calgary AB, former GDC Treasurer, were each awarded GDC Fellowship at the GDC Annual General Meeting, in Edmonton, AB.
Fellowship is the highest honour that the Society can bestow, and is awarded to a designer or individual who by influence and/or accomplishment has made a major contribution to graphic design in Canada. Only 56 individuals have received this accolade since 1960.

In 2006, GDC celebrates GDC@50: Designing Canada for 50 Years. The GDC was founded in 1956, grew to become a national association by 1974 and was granted a Federal Charter in 1976.The GDC’s membership in the International Council of Graphic Design Associations (Icograda) affiliates the GDC with a world-wide organization of graphic designers and provides its members with the opportunity for international recognition and professional development. The GDC’s mandate is to maintain a defined, recognized competent body of graphic designers and to promote high standards of graphic design for the benefit of Canadian industry, commerce, public service and education.

There are currently over 900 members of the GDC in various Chapters across Canada. Graphic designers in the province of Quebec are represented by the Société des Designers Graphiques du Québec (SDGQ) which has 135 members and is allied with the GDC.
